Wine Prep Courses, was founded in 2016, and since then has helped over 1,000 wine students around the world pass their WSET exams.

Wine is a real joy, there’s always more to learn about. My goal and passion is to help you succeed in your wine studies.

Hi, I’m Rachel!

Hi, I’m Rachel!

It all started when…

I saw a wine listed for $50 an ounce at a fancy restaurant when I was 20 years old. Something called Chateau d’Yquem, which I had no idea about except it was French, and was apparently for dessert. $50 an ounce, what is this, I wondered out loud?! A generous host ordered the table a round.

I had no idea what to expect… Cue technicolour fireworks: honey, apricot, a marmalade flavour brighter than life! Wow, how’d they get all those flavours in there? I had to learn more.

Since then, I've completed WSET Level 1 through to the WSET Diploma, and studied in the Master of Wine program.

The travel bug has bitten big time. Wine studies have brought me around the world, judging at the IWSC in London, and becoming a Vinitaly Italian Wine Ambassador in Verona. I’ve been all over the place, usually to somewhere with incredible food and preferably some vines nearby. In Canada: the Okanagan, Similkameen (where my husband and I have a small organic Chardonnay vineyard), Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, Prince Edward County and Niagara. In the USA, pretty much every wine region from Walla Walla to Napa Valley, plus Long Island. I’ve also toured extensively through Italy, France, Portugal, England, Greece, Turkey, Australia, & NZ. Fun fact: I’m half kiwi and used to have the NZ accent to prove it, although now I sound like a Vancouverite. Next on the travel wishlist is Spain.

Prior to wine, I did a degree in classical archaeology at UBC, worked in finance, and completed a culinary diploma at PICA Vancouver (where I finished top of the class ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

When not working with Wine Prep Courses, I’m writing the second edition of my guidebook to wineries of the Okanagan/Simillkameen, Winetripping, chilling in the veggie garden, and if I’m really lucky, watching some Star Trek TNG with a glass of Chardonnay.
